Crystalline samples of α- Zr(HPO4)-H2O(α-ZrP) been prepared by decomposition of zirconium fluoride complexes in the presence of phosphoric acid. The factors affecting the crystallinity and the morphology of α-ZrP have been studied. α-ZrP has a tendency to forming a shape of plate which should correspond to the crystal plane. The area and thickness of the plates are affacted by the factors depending on the rate of precipitation. The relative intensities of the d002, d110 and d112 reflections observed by X-ray powder diffraction show a correlation with the crystal morphology as determined by SEM.
